Your brain, emotion and timing...

Your brain, emotion and timing...

Your timing is subjective…turning your varying subjective internal clock into an objectively acceptable predictable and dance-able drum groove takes years.

The insular cortex, particularly the anterior part, plays a role in processing time intervals, especially in the range of seconds to subseconds, and is involved in both automatic and cognitively controlled temporal judgments.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Time Perception and the Insula:
The insular cortex, especially the anterior portion, is implicated in processing time intervals, including those in the range of seconds to subseconds.
Short-Timescale Perception:
Studies suggest that the insula is involved in tasks requiring judgments of short periods of time (a few seconds or less).
Interoception and Time:
Some models propose that the insula integrates changing body state signals to generate our sense of time duration, suggesting a link between interoception and time perception.
Accumulator-Type Activity:
Research indicates that the posterior insula may exhibit accumulator-type activity, where neural activity accumulates over time, potentially encoding duration in the multiple seconds range.
Cross-Modal Timing:
The anterior insula has been shown to respond to cross-modal timing mismatches, such as discrepancies between auditory and visual stimuli, even at intervals of 150 milliseconds or less.
Other Brain Regions:
While the insula is involved in time perception, it's not the only brain region involved, and other structures may be more strongly associated with core timing functions.

Lessons at Symmetrical Drumming take your state if mind into account, your breathing, your relaxed (or not) condition when pplaying.musical playing is at once intro-spective as it is  ‘extro-spective’.
