So much to learn…so little time.
Who What Where When How?
With so much stuff on offer…I suggest focusing (for a long time) on a few major skills, techniques, understandings and go in DEEP!
Learn a skill slowly, medium-ly, and fast-ly! (I did that to catch your eye and attention)!
Learn it soft, learn it loud. Learn it on a practice pad and all across your kit…learn it with your feet. Lead with your left…play it with brushes, with your hands, play it on percussion, play it on your Cajon, You get the picture.
Being aware of a million Youtube ‘things’ at a shallow level doesnt make for a tight groove, solid timing, and a command of tone, touch, and texture.
Long term systematic focus on fundamentals, with metronome (used creatively), recording yourself as you practice, getting a teacher to provide objectivity and direction …and overall, make sure you are practicing systematically rather than mindlessly doing repetitions.
Go Deep…avoid the shallow ‘conversation’ level musicianship!
