There are five things to do to make your practice stick.
Its all about Myelination!
- Systematic - practise for a set period of time or set number of repeats - have a set task to work on…random ad libing is fun but doesnt build brain connections rapidly. Play the long game…it takes years to play fluently with ‘pocket’!
- Daily - Everyday practice sessions (dont skip a day)…
- Record - video yourself playing during practice and also when ‘jamming’ with others.
- Teacher/Jamming - Get a teacher to provide objectivity and expertise to your progress. Get together with other musicians and ‘jam’…put your practice into a musical context
- Tenacity - Stick with the difficult stuff (be systematic)…break it down, slow it down…come back tomorrow.
